Energy to write

Sometimes I have it and sometimes I don't.

It is hot today but not so sticky as yesterday. I'm driving to Portsmouth for dinner tonight, after I drop a suitcase off at work and a load of stuff off at the new apartment.

Things to do, things to do.

I think I'm going back to the air-conditioned bedroom and reading Calvin and Hobbes for a little bit. To quote a work sister, "growing up is a raw deal".

I'm back because I miss the depth

I just reread my blog like a long lost friend.

I am a magical creature, and I miss the light.

I am back, three glasses of wine in and a whole Harry Potter series to thank. I mean that almost seriously -- I've reread the series and without it, for some reason, I wouldn't have come back to this blog to read it.

I like it. Is that funny? I like me. Carrie flavored ice-cream, for you Wayside fans, tastes quite nice and reminds its audience of color and energy, naps, puppies, and walks. And her grandmother's quilts.

I feel guilty working only 10 hours a day.

Morning Thaw

So I slept like a champion this weekend. I also decided that I hate my job. It is okay on a daily basis, but periodically I experience a system overload and my body shouts:

NO MORE WORK, LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL OUTSIDE THE OFFICE, NO MORE WORK, LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL OUTSIDE THE OFFICE.

It's like the City of Lud but far more mundane.

So I am seriously out of balance here but we have plans and this is a means to an end. We have beautiful, wonderful plans that involve a farm and children and growing things.

I am going home this weekend to visit my grandparents. All of us girls will be there and my mom will come up to see us. Hmm...Fights anyone? Or maybe we'll get along. Who knows, the world is a surprising and interesting place.

I miss you all.

2009 is a year for trimming down

Or "oh shit".

So we have recently acknowledged the extent of our debt. Ouch. Far worse than what we had imagined. Almost every cent coming in is going back out.

And I have recently acknowledged my weight. Ouch. Far worse than what I had imagined. Almost every calorie coming in is going back out. Actually, more...

I have to remember for both situations - you didn't get here overnight, you aren't going to get out of here overnight, either.

And we got a 10% pay slash yesterday, in lieu of lay-offs. Hmmm. That issue may have to be revisited in a few months, determined by factors that lay just slightly in my control.

What really can I say? Monopoly money...It's all monopoly money. And unbelievable pilots and saved lives...speaking of important things,

I have my first pro bono case this week. I represent a tenant facing eviction. She stopped paying rent when her landlord refused to fix housing code violations. I am in court for the first time on Thursday. The rapid notice made me cancel my planned weekend home to see my grandparents. I miss them all a lot. It is hard to be away from home. Ever since I've moved away, with the exception of the time in New Paltz, Colorado, and Philadelphia (aka 1998-1999), I've been able to see them whenever I wanted to. Now, when my grandpa is getting sick and they are getting older, I have to fit them into my "time off". I understand why people don't move away from family if they can avoid it. Around here, no one seems to move away. I think almost every family on the street lives in their parents home. It's interesting and different.

The forecast here on the outside is frigid and sunny. The dogs are in the backyard and I keep checking on them to make sure they are okay. It's probably around 5 degrees. The forecast on the inside is warm and balmy with an occasional thunderstorm.

Facebook has recently connected me with lots and lots of old friends. It is kind of beautiful. Old peers have moved onto really great things.

What else? Live moves, I suppose. I miss you all and I am going to try to write more.

It's December Already!!

Today is a weekend day. We will be getting a tree, decorating it, decorating our home, putting out our Christmas lights, and hanging up a big wreath.

We will also be making: butternut squash soup, fish, and a vegetable for a nice family dinner.

I will, soon, finish my coffee, get up, get out of the old pajamas, clean up a bit, locate the aforementioned Christmas decorations, and then take the dogs out for a good bit of exercise.

I guess that's it!
